Our Story
Meridiem Curios emerged from a simple observation: the tradition of thoughtful collecting deserved support that honored both its heritage and contemporary needs. Founded in 2003 by three collectors who had themselves navigated the challenges of developing knowledge and making informed acquisitions, the gallery began as an informal meeting place for those seeking guidance without commercial pressure.
What distinguished Meridiem Curios from the outset was our commitment to education over transaction. We recognized that many potential collectors hesitated at the threshold, uncertain of terminology, authenticity markers, or fair value. Rather than viewing this uncertainty as an obstacle to sales, we saw it as an opportunity for meaningful service. Our Collector's Introduction Programme developed from these early conversations, evolving into a structured yet flexible approach to building collecting confidence.
As our community grew, so did requests for different kinds of support. Collectors who had developed significant holdings sought appropriate venues for sharing their achievements with peers and institutions. Others faced the complex task of assessing inherited collections, requiring both technical expertise and sensitivity to family history. Each need prompted expansion of our services while maintaining our founding principle: respect for the collector's journey and autonomy.
Today, Meridiem Curios operates from a purpose-designed facility in Singapore's historic Maxwell Road district. Our gallery maintains environmental conditions appropriate for valuable and fragile objects, while our documentation and assessment capabilities serve collectors throughout Southeast Asia. We have facilitated connections between private collections and major institutions, supported the development of numerous focused collections, and helped families make informed decisions about inherited material culture.
Our team brings together specialists in Asian ceramics and decorative arts, European furniture and paintings, rare books and manuscripts, and scientific instruments. This breadth of knowledge allows us to serve collectors across categories while maintaining the depth necessary for meaningful guidance. We participate in international scholarly networks and maintain relationships with auction houses, dealers, conservators, and institutions throughout the region.

Thirty years researching Chinese export porcelain and Southeast Asian ceramics. Published author and former museum curator with expertise in authentication and provenance research.
Rebecca Chen
European Decorative Arts Specialist
Background in auction house appraisal and private dealing. Specialized knowledge of furniture, silver, and glass from sixteenth through nineteenth centuries. Fluent in French and German for archival research.
James Tan
Conservation & Assessment Coordinator
Trained in object conservation with practical experience across diverse materials. Manages environmental monitoring, condition documentation, and coordination with specialist conservators for treatment recommendations.

Dr. Lim's work on Chinese export porcelain and its adaptation for various markets informs authentication of pieces that frequently appear on the market. Rebecca Chen's furniture expertise extends to construction techniques and regional variations that assist in attribution and dating. James Tan's conservation background allows assessment of treatment history and recommendations for preventive care.

A collection focused on maritime history might include nautical instruments, ship models, charts, and seafaring memorabilia.
